Best of …. best of what, and still no gigs!

January 27th, 2010 · CDs, al orkesta

I just posted this on my MySpace blog as it’s another nice review, this time from Something Else (an excellent jazz blog – no, all round music blog). Great as I mention below to get these best of but I’m almost thinking of changing profession after 25 years in music as it’s impossible to find a gig for my group, even after winning (if you can call it that) all these awards. We (I) also managed to get into the Top New Discoveries for All About Jazz ……… but still no gigs. Sending out Cds to festivals and clubs non stop and still receiving the  same old answers.

I’ll maybe write more about that at a later date.

Well here’s another list where from Something Else Best Fusion CDs of 2009 featuring Al Orkesta. Check out the rest of the list as there’s quite a few good things in there which I enjoyed at least. East West Quintet (I’d love a copy of their CD) and the Worst Pop Band Ever are a couple of my favorites.

Great to get into these best of lists, just need to find a gig ….. would be helpful!

Where are we now? @ AAJ

January 5th, 2010 · CDs, Jazz, Remarks, al orkesta, press, where are we now?

Another bit of good news to close down the 2009 section of this blog as it seems as though the CD ‘Where are we now?’ from my group Al Orkesta has been voted into the best CDs of 2009 by John Kelman @ All About Jazz –  in the New Discoveries section! Not bad, especially as we didn’t sell many CDs, or not that I knew about. Well, stranger things happen at sea as they say and it would be great to get some gigs outside of Belgium as well. I’m just going to keep my fingers crossed for 2010 and at the same time ……….. and who knows, a gig or two? Not forgetting …… thanks again Michael Ricci and John Kelman at All About Jazz.

Al Orkesta and Le Soir

December 29th, 2009 · CDs, Remarks, al orkesta, jazz critique, mogno, press, where are we now?

Just a very quick remark as I was amazed to hear (from various friends and sources) that my CD ‘Where are we now?’ from my group Al Orkesta has been voted number 1 CD in the jazz category in Belgium! Well that’s not bad, especially as we didn’t sell many CDs, or not that I knew about. So, maybe we’ll sell a few more in the next few months ……….. and who knows, a gig or two?
